Architectural glass breakage testing machine

purpose
The purpose of this test is provide confidence that cutting or piercing injuries can be minimized if the module is broken


Background 
The test described herein is derived from ANSI Z97.1 , impact test 

apparatus
The apparatus is as follows :
1. Impactors shall be leather punching bags of similar shape and size. the bag shall be filled to the required weight suing chilled lead shot or pellets (2.5mm to 3.0mm in diameter, during testing , the impactor shall be completely covered with a 1.3cm wide glass filament reinforced pressure sensitive tape
2.Teh structure framing and bracing shall be steel channel (approximately C100mm*200mm) or larger and shall have a minimum moment of inertia of approximately 178cm4, the frame shall be welded or securely bolted at the corners of minimize twisting during impact. it shall also be bolted to the floor to prevent movement during impact testing 
3.When a impactor bag is filled with lead shot. it will weigh approximately 45.5kg , and will be capable of delivering 542J of kinetic energy when swung through a 1.2m vertical drop 
 
procedure
Mount the module sample so that it is centered and rigid on the test frame using the method described the manufacture, the procedure is as follow:
1.At rest , no more than 13mm from the surface of the module sample and no more than 50mm from the center of the module sample
2.Lift the impactor to a drop height of 300mm from the surface of the module sample, allow the impactor to stabilize , and then release it to striker the module sample
3.If no breakage occurs , reapet the sequence of b) from a drop height of 450mm, if still no breakage occurs , repeat from a distance of 1220mm
